The Into Balance Method

An Integrative Brain-Based Approach to Healing

At the heart of the Into Balance Method, is a philosophy deeply rooted in understanding and addressing the root causes of pain rather than merely managing symptoms. We achieve this by using functional brain-based approaches, integrating various clinical modalities that are adapted to the individual ensuring that each individual's journey toward wellness is as distinctive as they are.

Treatment image
Comprehensive Assessment

The process begins with an in-depth evaluation through a comprehensive initial assessment. This involves a detailed neurological screening to analyze movement patterns, functional capacity, paired with mapping cognitive and sensory integration. Beyond physical assessments, a holistic health profile is created by reviewing medical history, lifestyle, emotional factors, and biomechanical dysfunctions. By understanding the interplay of these dimensions, a treatment plan is crafted to wholly address the whole person.

Personalized Treatment

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution. The multilayered intervention strategy uses brain-based neurological recalibration, targeted manipulation, integrated movement repatterning, and systemic balance restoration. This combination activates neuroplasticity, enabling the brain and nervous system to adapt and heal. Each treatment is further refined using a hierarchical systems approach, ensuring alignment of the mind, body, and nervous system for optimal healing.

Progressive Recovery

The Into Balance Method adapts to the individual's age, condition, and specific needs. Whether working with pediatric neurological development, chronic pain management, or geriatric neurological maintenance, our approach remains flexible and precise. Healing progresses in three phases: mapping and assessment, active intervention, and integration and maintenance. Each phase is carefully monitored to ensure steady progress and sustainable results.

Restorative Wellness

Central to this Into Balance Method is patient empowerment. We believe in educating our clients, cultivating self-awareness, and equipping them with neurological self-regulation techniques. Together, we create a collaborative healing process that extends far beyond the therapy sessions, fostering independence and long-term wellness. Regular assessments and adaptive interventions ensure that treatment evolves alongside the patient’s progress

With the Into Balance Method, healing becomes more than a process—it's a journey back to your natural balance and a restored sense of vitality.

NEUROFASCIA WELLNESS & SOMATIC THERAPY

A multimodal approach to healing that addresses the body’s fascial network—a dynamic, intelligent system that profoundly influences your emotional states, stress response, immune function, and hormonal balance. Often referred to as the body's "biological Internet," the fascia transmits inflammatory signals, stress responses, and hormonal messages throughout the body. Emerging research highlights how stress and signals from the immune and neuroendocrine systems influence the health of the fascia, impacting overall well-being. This can be said for trauma as well, as it is often stored in the body, affecting the brain’s limbic system, contributing to chronic tension and emotional dysregulation. This comprehensive therapy works to reset your autonomic nervous system, releasing you from the grip of chronic stress and its manifestations—whether they appear as physical pain, emotional challenges, or systemic dysfunction. Experience a return to wholeness as we help your body rediscover its innate capacity for self-regulation and healing.

  • Scoliosis and postural imbalances
  • Sciatica and peripheral nerve entrapments
  • Chronic neck and back pain and spinal fixations/subluxations
  • Lumbo-pelvic-hip dysfunctions related to foot problems

Scoliosis Management

Ours is a personalized exercise program according to the SEAS protocol, designed to manage scoliosis by enhancing spinal stability and promoting active self-correction. We offer both preventive care for early-stage scoliosis and management strategies for established curves which are specifically designed for individuals with scoliosis at any age.

  • Assessment and Active Self-Correction Training: The session begins with an evaluation of the patient's spinal curvature and posture using a personalized SEAS scolimeter app. The therapist then teaches the patient specific active self-correction techniques tailored to their individual spinal deformity. These techniques are performed without external aids and are crucial for the patient's ability to control and correct their posture independently.
  • Functional Exercises and Other Treatment Modalities: Once the patient has learned the self-correction techniques, they are incorporated into functional exercises. These exercises aim to stabilize the corrected posture and improve neuromotor control, balance, and proprioception. The goal is to train the patient to maintain the corrected posture during daily activities, thereby integrating the corrections into everyday life which increases compliance. There is usually a need for other hands-on techniques like fascia maneuvers, physiotherapy, and motor control-based therapy systems to assess for compensation and neurological dysfunction in tandem with the exercises.
  • Customization and Progression: The exercises are individually adapted based on the patient's age, type and severity of scoliosis, and physical capabilities. The therapist adjusts the exercises' complexity and intensity as the patient progresses, ensuring continuous improvement and engagement.
  • Home Exercise Program: Patients are provided with a set of exercises to perform at home, typically for about 20 minutes daily. This home program is essential for reinforcing the skills learned during therapy sessions and for promoting long-term maintenance of spinal stability.

KIDS FUNCTIONAL THERAPY: BUILDING STRONG FOUNDATIONS FOR GROWTH AND LEARNING

At the heart of our Kids Functional Therapy program is a commitment to supporting brain-body communication and holistic growth. The techniques are tailored to each child’s unique needs as we work closely with parents and educators to track the child’s progress, providing continuous support and making necessary adjustments to the therapy program. This collaborative approach ensures the child’s developmental milestones are met effectively. This integrative approach is designed to address a wide range of functional challenges, from poor posture and motor skills to behavioral issues and learning difficulties.

We See Children With/Who Are:

  • Retained Primitive Reflexes
  • Wearing dental braces
  • Poor posture – slumped, flat feet or "knocked knees"
  • Scoliosis
  • Poor motor control
  • Coordination and balance challenges
  • Kids born under C-section
  • Temper or tantrum issues
  • Easily frustrated
  • Struggles sitting still
  • Sleep issues
  • Phobias
  • General low physical resilience extending to immune function or mineral deficiencies or gut issues
  • Learning difficulties and attention problems
  • Sensory processing issues
  • Anxiety and stress responses
  • Speech language delays

Key Focus Areas:

Retained Primitive Reflexes: Children experiencing developmental delays, learning difficulties, motor control, or behavioral issues can benefit greatly from Primitive Reflex Integration. It is a therapeutic approach that works to integrate primitive reflexes—automatic motor responses present from birth, which should naturally disappear as a child grows. These reflexes form the foundation of brain and body coordination, supporting the development of complex motor skills, attention, and emotional regulation. When these reflexes remain "active" or retained beyond infancy, they can create obstacles in learning, physical coordination, focus, and emotional stability, affecting people at any age.

The Impact of Dental Braces on Development: While essential for dental alignment, braces can affect:

  • Postural Dynamics: The tension created by dental braces can alter cranial balance, leading to compensatory changes in posture and movement.
  • Sensory-Motor Development: Disruption in cranial nerves and oral sensory input may affect coordination, balance, and fine motor skills.
  • Neurodevelopmental Challenges: Misalignments and tension in the cranial system may interfere with primitive reflex integration, a critical foundation for sensory-motor and cognitive growth.
  • Vision and Auditory Systems: Strain on cranial structures can impact visual tracking, auditory processing, and spatial awareness.
  • Behavior and Learning: Sensory overload or discomfort can manifest as focus issues, emotional dysregulation, or difficulties in academic and social settings.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Improve physical coordination and sensory processing
  • Enhance cognitive functioning and readiness for complex learning
  • Develop greater body awareness and emotional stability
  • Build resilience to stress and environmental challenges
  • Engage confidently in social and educational activities

I’ve been to many physios for my back issues and that has stopped since I’ve discovered Carol. Been seeing Carol for 2 years now. Started with musculoskeletal issue but somehow, I have learned many things from her, with stress being the main culprit, and how it has impacted my overall wellbeing. Her attention to detail and wealth of knowledge is very admirable. Great services as Carol always prioritizes identifying the root cause rather than just treating the symptoms. Highly recommended!!

Carol is fantastic, really 'listening' to what the body is saying to find the root of the problem. She is very thorough and detailed, and works with me to ensure I understand what's causing the problem and how to fix it. My back pain and other balancing issues have been resolved under her treatment and guidance.

As someone who lifts, niggles and pains are commonplace. I thought I'd just have to live with it. However, with Carol's unorthodox methods, I've gained 10-15% in my overall strength after 2 weeks and 2 treatments. When the niggles do come, I know how to test them, and overcome the pains. I've also learned that there's little need for my muscles and joints to be smashed painfully, as she's super gentle and the treatment is painless. What I like most, is that she does not assume. She tests the weaknesses, strengthens it, and then retests them to confirm. That way we're both able to see if it's right or wrong. She'd be my first go-to if I ever have anyone asking me what helped

When I started with Carol, I was already under the care of 2 other physiotherapists (over the span of 3 weeks). As their treatment was ineffective, I decided to switch and this led me to Into Balance Therapy. Carol's attentiveness to detail, especially on the diagnosis of my injury, allowed me to notice how different her approach was. I injured my right arm in March 2024 lifting a heavy tub of ater; I couldn't sit at my PC to work more than 10 minutes nor could I lift a pen to write. I had to resort to driving with my left hand and I had to raised my injured right arm (throughout the car ride) to reduce the nonstop immense pain I was feeling. Visit after visit, Carol's treatment (wiz assigned exercises as homework) helped reduce the pain and swelling and helped me regain the use of my right arm and right hand. The confidence I gained after being in Carol's care has led me to approach her again to treat my previous '8-year-old' wrist injury - the left wrist which experiences somewhat tolerable pain, on and off. I highly recommend Carol's physiotherapy services.

Carol's knowledge and ability to unlock the body is outstanding. In three sessions she has managed to release knots and blocks and I now have a much better range of movement. She gives easy to manage homework and provides feedback to my personal trainer. She's happy to answer questions and helps connect the dots using lay language when explaining things.

Before meeting Carol, I thought there was no other way for me to get back on track. Online school has affected my overall well being in a way I could not cope. Not only does she listen but she also helps in removing the 'Boulders' that I have been accumulating for the past months. Thank you for helping me find balance in life again. 😊

Carol Yip - Applied Functional Neurology & Rehabilitation Specialist

Carol Yip – Applied Functional Neurology & Rehabilitation Specialist

Carol's main aim is to get you moving and feel well again. She is here to ease your pain and help you feel more connected in your body by providing the care and expertise you need for a successful recovery.

Carol Yip is a seasoned Applied Functional Neurology & Rehabilitation Specialist with a remarkable 25-year track record in helping clients overcome complex health challenges ranging from chronic pain, trauma & anxiety, postural issues, pain syndromes arising from autoimmune conditions, chronic illnesses or digestive or metabolic disorders through a unique, brain-based approach.

Carol is a registered physiotherapist with the New Zealand Physiotherapy Board and the Ministry of Health in Malaysia. She combines extensive clinical expertise with a compassionate, client-centered philosophy. Her professional career in New Zealand was invested in cardiorespiratory and surgical physiotherapy, Women's Health, trauma (intensive care unit, cardiac care unit and burns unit), orthopedics and neurological rehabilitation and finally in heading the Outpatient Orthopedic department. Seeing the fragmentation of services received by the patients in that time, she decided to embark on the holistic path for wellness.

Over the years, Carol's approach has evolved into a brain-based method by interacting with the nervous system to know what is going on in the body. She helps you to connect the dots, map out the imbalances and identify the root cause or causes of your imbalances. She is a very hands-on and intuitive therapist—conducting detailed assessments that allow her to target imbalances with precision and focus. This method ensures that each treatment is specifically tailored to the individual such that two individuals with the same conditions can have different therapies!

It is a method of therapy that utilises specific assessment to understand normal and abnormal functioning of the nervous system and adopt an integrated holistic therapy to assist the body back into balance by creating homeostasis in the most achievable manner to achieve that self healing. She had come to observe that a nervous system under constant threat can become a barrier to recovery, leading to a state where symptoms persist as the body remains locked in "survival mode."

This insight drives her use of a systems hierarchy framework that systematically clears imbalances based on priorities and gradually shifts the nervous system into a state of calm and safety. When the nervous system no longer perceives threat, it then allows for further interventions or any lifestyle adjustments to take place allowing for efficient processing of change and neuroplasticity. By reinforcing neuroplasticity—the brain's ability to adapt and reorganize, it helps to sustain progress. This calm state not only enhances physical healing but also empowers clients to adapt to life's stresses with resilience.

Carol's work aims to help you transition out of the "fight or flight" mode and facilitate a state of balance and homeostasis, guiding the body toward self-healing in a manner that feels achievable and sustainable for you.

Results can never be guaranteed in therapy, what matters more is the support that you are given and she equips you with the tools you need to enhance your movement and well-being. Ultimately, the healing responsibility still lies with the client – "the healer only triggers within you your own ability to heal"- as true healing is ultimately driven by your own brain and body. The objective is simply to allow a person to be better able to adapt and compensate for the stresses the body had memorised.

Carol's therapeutic philosophy emphasizes a collaborative approach—it's a partnership where she ignites the healing potential, but the client sustains it through lifestyle changes, consistent self-care practices, and targeted exercises. You will gain a deeper understanding of your body and how it had been working and you will be given the tools to help break the cycle of chronic stress and dis-ease, but she reminds you that it is not about solely leaving the healing responsibility to the therapist to get fixed. "A healer only triggers within you your own ability to heal" as true healing is ultimately driven by the client's own brain and body.

Results can never be guaranteed in therapy; genuine healing requires support rather than promises as we still do not know everything about the intricacies of the human body. Carol's approach is to equip the clients with the tools they need to enhance their movement and well-being. The client will need to perform their part by taking an active approach in performing the home exercise / self help hacks to rewire or reprogram the system. Healing can be a gradual or swift journey, depending on the client's unique situation and history. What it is not is a one off event. Trust the process and above all, set small achievable goals along the way.

Through her integrative brain based therapy, Carol Yip offers more than just relief—you get to experience sustainable transformations that help you find balance, resilience, and the freedom to live life more fully.

Frequently Asked Questions

Intervention consists of 4 parts: 1)Evaluation at the start of the session, and priorities established for the treatment session. 2) Intervention - The modalities chosen will be based on the specific issue and the condition of the client. It may be that emotional clearing may need to be done first to clear the path for structural work as emotions strongly affect the body’s homeostasis – circadian, hormonal or immunological. 3) Homework assignments in the form of customized exercises or prescribing lifestyle habits to support the corrections and 4) Toward the conclusion of each session, a few key steps take place. I reassess your progress, address any final adjustments, go over the ongoing treatment approach, and check in on any at-home activities, including recommended exercises and stretches. If not already captured when wrapping up the session, instructions for these exercises would be provided via whatsapp

The process is non judgmental and non threatening. Different people experience this release in varying ways and at different times, even days after a session. Do not be alarmed. It is just the stuck emotions coming to the fore to be released. It will pass. Practicing post-release self-care, such as hydration, grounding, journaling, and gentle exercise, can enhance emotional healing and integration.

The session generally winds down in about 45 min but often there will be exercises / stretches/ summary of session to go over or video recording of prescribed exercise. However, the first session may take up to 60 minutes

Most clients notice some improvement after the first visit, although more substantial changes might require at least 4 sessions. The longer a person has maintained a certain compensatory movement pattern, the more likely it is to have caused additional imbalances elsewhere in the body and may take longer to improve. Additionally, care is taken to not make too many corrections / over treat in one session as this will end up overwhelming the system which can cause additional trauma. This must be avoided at all cost. As I often remind clients, just as your body didn’t change overnight, restoring balance might also take some time. Generally, the gap in between sessions is about 2 weeks apart to allow for integration within the nervous system.

Wear comfortable clothing (e.g., loose t-shirt and shorts) to allow free movement avoiding denim, skirts or business attire. Sessions are conducted barefoot.

The duration of results depends on the origins of the problem. If it stems from a singular event or past stress no longer affecting you, results may last indefinitely. However, if issues arise from ongoing stressors or poor posture habits, regular self-care exercises will be essential for maintenance.
